Common Upper Extremity Disorders and Function Affect Upper Extremity-Related Quality of Life: A Community-Based Sample from Rural Areas

Abstract: PurposeUpper extremity musculoskeletal disorders (UEMDs), such as rotator cuff tear, epicondylitis, and hand osteoarthritis, have a negative impact on quality of life (QOL). In this study, we evaluated the prevalence of rotator cuff tear, lateral and medial epicondylitis, and hand osteoarthritis in the dominant side and the impact of these UEMDs on the disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand (DASH) outcome measure, which assesses upper extremity-related QOL.Materials and MethodsIn 2013–2015, 987 participan… Show more

“…[42] Investigators from the OA Trial Bank performed an individual patient data meta-analysis of published randomized controlled trials of IASI in hip or knee OA by requesting data from corresponding authors of all eligible trials. [43] The authors found that IASI had significant short-(<4 weeks) and mid-(1-3 months) term benefits, but no effect on long term-(up to 12 months) outcomes, with no difference in signs of inflammation. [44,45] Zhang, et al, considered the importance of aspiration of a joint prior to IAHA administration, randomizing 92 symptomatic knee OA patients to maximal aspiration and 88 to no aspiration prior to weekly IAHA for 5 weeks, with 25-week followup.…”

“…Эта патология вызывала значительные страдания, о чем свидетельствует высокая субъективная оценка выраженности боли -6,58±1,61 балла по 11-балльной ЧРШ и серьезные функциональные нарушения (2,7±0,8 балла по 6-балльной ЧРШ). Полученные нами данные соответствуют результатам работ зарубежных исследователей, отмечающих существенное влияние ПОМТ на функциональный статус и качество жизни пациентов [17][18][19][20].…”
