Communication protocols for underwater data collection using a robotic sensor network

Abstract: Abstract-We examine the problem of collecting data from an underwater sensor network using an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). The sensors in the network are equipped with acoustic modems that provide noisy, range-limited communication to the AUV. One challenge in this scenario is to plan paths that maximize the information collected and minimize travel time. While executing a path, the AUV can improve performance by communicating with multiple nodes in the network at once. Such multi-node communication re… Show more

“…In [11], mobile AUV is used to retrieve data from underwater sensor nodes by using scheduling approach based on Time Division Multiple Access with Acknowledgements (TDMA-ACK) to administer communication. The said approach of TDMA-ACK achieves good data retrieval performance.…”

“…Although most of the previous researches [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] have addressed the outlier detection in time series, there still exist some challenges to undertake; for example, different time series appear out of synchronism, results of the traditional similarity calculation method are no longer available, the periodical outlier in time series is hard to detect, the determination of the outlier threshold is unreasonable, and so on. In this paper, a hierarchy-segmentation-data-extraction-based outlier detection method is proposed.…”
