Abstract

It may provide deeper insight into the pathomechanisms of both autoimmune skin diseases and their comorbidities and yield valuable suggestions for screening techniques for additional comorbidities that might be integrated into clinical practice. Dermatologists-and in some countries rheumatologists-are most likely be the clinicians who make the diagnosis of many autoimmune diseases.Better awareness about the risk of associated comorbidities could be conducive to both an improved management of patients and to an in-depth understanding of the molecular mechanisms of disease. More epidemiological data are necessary, and systematic reviews on comorbidities should be performed and published regularly to increase this awareness. A website dedicated to comorbidities in dermatology might contribute to this work.
