Three small multi-bandplanar inverted-F antennas (PIFAs) are presented They have been developed to be used in future small multi-standard handsets. Mobile communication (GSM1800, UMTfS), wireless local area network (WLAN) (IEEE 802. lb, HiperLAN2) and wireless personal area network (WPAN) (Bluetooth) standards have been envisaged. Prototypes have been designed, fabricated and tested. Good agreement has been obtained between numerical simulations and experimental results.

A medium gain triple-band compact microstrip patch antenna element with a small ground plane is presented. It bas been developed to be used in small handsets of future multi-standard mobile communication (GSMl 800 and UMTS) and wireless local area network (HiperLAN2) systems. A prototype has been designed, fabricated and tested. Good agreement has been obtained between numerical simulations and experimental results.
