“…Reduced susceptibility to vancomycin (MIC >2 μg/mL) was found in 3% of CoNS isolates in our study, similar to a 2% rate in a recent review of bloodstream infections caused by CoNS [ 23 ]. As was the case with other recent summaries of susceptibility data from Spain [ 20 22 ], no CoNS isolates were resistant to vancomycin, linezolid, or daptomycin.…”

“…alternative to vancomycin because of its high level of antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity, as previously reported. 10,32 According to our data, daptomycin not only inhibited all the tested strains but also showed high bactericidal activity for both bacterial species (77.78% for S. aureus and 78.95% for S. epidermidis). These results are in accordance with those of other studies.…”

“…30 Glycopeptide-resistant staphylococci have not yet been detected in Spain, [31][32][33] although an increase in the prevalence of staphylococci with reduced susceptibility to glycopeptides as well as staphylococcal strains tolerant to glycopeptides have been observed in recent years. 31,32,34 Given the broader spectrum of vancomycin over that of cephalosporins with regard to the grampositive bacteria most commonly isolated in POE and the drastic reduction in the incidence of infection caused by the change in antibiotic prophylaxis noted in our study (0.03%), we feel that addition of vancomycin and gentamicin to the irrigating solution is suitable for preventing POE after cataract surgery in our hospital. The incidence of POE in the second part of our study period is very similar to that noted by various authors who used intracameral cefuroxime (range 0.04-0.06%) [12][13][14][15][16][17]35 as well as by others who added antibiotics to the irrigating solution (0.06%).…”
