Comparative analysis of cascaded fuzzy-PI controllers based-MPPT and perturb and observe MPPT in a grid-connected PV system operating under different weather and loading conditions

Abstract: <p>In this paper, a comparison is carried out between MPPT technique using a hybrid cascaded Fuzzy-PI Controller and Perturb and Observe (P&amp;O) MPPT technique. The two techniques are compared in a system which consists of a photovoltaic system connected to a grid via a two-level three-phase inverter. The P&amp;O and Fuzzy-PI techniques are examined under different weather conditions, namely, ramp change in irradiation level and ramp change in temperature levels. Disturbances represented by flu… Show more

“…The Perturb and Observe technique is used for MPPT due to its simplicity. The PV terminal voltage and current are the input to the Perturb & Observe technique which set the duty cycle of the inverter [35]- [37]. The phase displacement technique is utilized to generate the gating signals for the inverter MOSFETs.…”

“…The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method allows tracking a LMPP rather than a GMPP. However, these methods have drawbacks that reduce their performance, such as suggesting a fixed and small step size of duty cycle and which causes slow tracking under rapid weather conditions, high fluctuations under MPP, and tracking the LMPP rather than GMPP under partial protecting environments [3]- [5]. There Int J Pow Elec & Dri Syst ISSN: 2088-8694  are several traditional MPPT methods, such as open circuit voltage (𝑉 𝑂𝐶 ),short circuit current( 𝐼 𝑆𝐶 ),hill climbing (HC), Pilot cell algorithm.…”

“…In work [11], the photovoltaic system was analyzed and simulated in order to test two improved MPPT techniques: perturb and observe (P&O) with PI controller and fuzzy PI controller optimized through genetic algorithms (GAs). A comparison between the MPPT technique using the fuzzy PI controller in a hybrid cascade, and the MPPT technique using the "perturb and observe" (P&O) algorithm, was presented in the work [12]. A comparative study between the control of the DC-DC converter of boost type and the threephase inverter with the fuzzy logic controller or PI controller was presented in work [13].…”
