Comparative analysis of restraint stress-induced depressive-like phenotypes in C57BL/6N mice derived from three different sources

Abstract: C57BL/6NKorl mice are a novel mouse stock recently developed by the National Institute of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation in Korea. Extensive research into the nature of C57BL/6NKorl mice is being conducted. However, there is no scientific evidence for the phenotypic response to restraint stress (RST), a stress paradigm for modeling depressive disorders, in rodents. In this study, we investigated the repeated RST-induced depressive-like phenotypes in C57BL/6 N mouse substrains (viz., C57BL/6NKorl mice from Kor… Show more

“…Prior to DSS treatment, C57BL/6NKorl mice had higher body weights compared to the other two sub-strains of C57BL/6 N mice (Fig. 1 a), in agreement with previous studies [ 9 , 10 , 12 , 14 ]. DSS caused dose- and time-dependent body weight loss (Fig.…”

“…The characteristics of C57BL/6NKorl have been identified by comparing these mice to the generally used C57BL/6 N sub-strains from different sources. The C57BL/6NKorl mice have shown similar humoral immunity, fertilization and embryo development rates, tumorigenesis, and responses to cisplatin and restraint stress compared to other C57BL/6 N mice [ 9 14 ]. However, relatively higher body weight and adipose tissue mass, and lower oxygen consumption were found to be distinct features of the C57BL/6NKorl sub-strain [ 9 , 10 , 12 , 14 ].…”

“…The blood was centrifuged and plasma was collected and stored at −80°C. Plasma corticosterone levels were measured using an ELISA kit according to the manufacture’s protocol (ADI-900-097; Enzo Life Sciences) and a microplate reader at 405nm (Absorbance 96; Enzo Life Sciences) 57 , 58 . Contaminated samples were excluded.…”
