Comparative analysis of the diameter of MTwo® system gutta-percha points in relation to their corresponding instruments

Abstract: This study aimed to compare the diameter of sizes 25/.06, 30/.05, 35/.04, 40/.04 and 25/.07 main gutta-percha point of MTwo®system in relation to their corresponding nickel-titanium instruments. Material and methods: For this purpose, the measurements of both the main gutta-percha points and their corresponding instruments were obtained with the aid of a caliper at the positions D1, D3 and D11. Twenty points and six instruments of each size were used. Results: Data were subjected to student t test, with a sign… Show more

“…Salles at al. [4] compared the MTwo® system and found that for almost all size/taper combinations (except 25/0.7) there were no statistically significant differences at D1 and D3. However, a comparison of other 2 brands of instrument/point systems revealed that the cones were statistically significantly greater than corresponding files at D1, D3 and D11 for ProTaper Next and D3 and D11 for WaveOne GP [18].…”

“…The hermetic sealing of a root canal is one of the basic principles of root canal treatment. Such obturation is usually achieved by combining gutta-percha points (GP) with endodontic sealer [1]. Regardless of the root canal filling technique, small gaps are often left between the points, sealer and walls of the root canal, which can enable endodontic pathogens to survive [2,3].…”

“…However, the dimensional tolerance does not apply to the tip of the point (D 0 ). A number of studies have reported the lack of standardisation of commercially available gutta-percha points with a wide variation in diameter and taper [1,7,8,[10][11][12][13].…”
