Comparative Analysis the Complete Chloroplast Genomes of Nine Musa Species: Genomic Features, Comparative Analysis, and Phylogenetic Implications

Abstract: Musa (family Musaceae) is monocotyledonous plants in order Zingiberales, which grows in tropical and subtropical regions. It is one of the most important tropical fruit trees in the world. Herein, we used next-generation sequencing technology to assemble and perform in-depth analysis of the chloroplast genome of nine new Musa plants for the first time, including genome structure, GC content, repeat structure, codon usage, nucleotide diversity and etc. The entire length of the Musa chloroplast genome ranged fro… Show more

“…In general, the phylogenetic position revealed was consistent with previous studies [ 86 , 87 , 88 , 89 ]. However, the phylogenetic relationships we discovered within Cucurbitaceae differed from the results of previous phylogenetic marker-based taxonomy research [ 90 , 91 ]. This may have been due to the different approaches used for phylogenetic tree construction, with further investigation needed.…”

“…Despite general consistency, variations occurred frequently during the evolutionary process, forming different genotypes and phenotypes. These nucleotide variations (Pi) could be distinguished as high divergent regions [ 58 ]. Some may accumulate through generations to better adapt to the environmental changes, which is called positive selection.…”

“…The two copy of trnT-GGU and trnM-CAU genes in most Quercus species were caused by annotation and the overlap of these two genes. Most other angiosperms, such as Musa , Oryza , Stauntonia , and Carya , only recognized one copy of these two genes in the LSC region [ 50 , 51 , 52 , 53 ].…”
