“…Serological and molecular epidemiological studies can help in elucidating the genetic diversity and evolution of these pathogens [99]. It has also been observed that the studies included in the present meta-analysis commonly used techniques like biochemical tests and PCR [44,56,97] followed by ELISA [34,37,64] and lateral flow assays [33] for the detection of bacterial pathogens. It is very much desired that longitudinal studies are needed to monitor the changes in prevalence over time and to assess the effectiveness of control measures.…”

“…The antigenic potential of secreted proteins, such as listeriolysin and phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C (PI-PLC), both of which are necessary for the escape of the pathogen from the phagocytic vacuoles of the host, has also been employed for antibody development. In the case of listeriolysin, quite promising immunological approaches for listeriosis diagnosis have been developed [ 13 , 14 ]. In contrast, the use of PI-PLC resulted in extended cross-reactivity due to its conserved nature among listeriae and non- Listeria genera, such as Bacillus spp.…”

“…Over two decades ago, even its existence in India in environmental and clinical sources was in doubt, with very few studies documenting unambiguous detection of this bacterium (Barbuddhe et al ., 2012). We have been actively engaged for more than a decade in the standardization, development, and evaluation of the methods based on the virulence markers of L. monocytogenes and L. ivanovii , for rapid diagnosis of listeriosis primarily in animals and human beings (Rawool et al ., 2007; Barbuddhe et al ., 2012; Suryawanshi et al ., 2017). The presence of Listeria in different ecological niches have been recorded from India, including foods, soil, vegetables, mangrove swamps, seafood, freshwater fishes, clinical cases, and also insects (Parihar et al ., 2008; Barbuddhe et al ., 2012; Soni et al ., 2014; Doijad et al ., 2018; Kulesh et al ., 2019).…”
