A potted experiment was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture screen house, University of Ilorin, Nigeria in 2018 and 2019 planting seasons to evaluate the performance of sesame to different moisture regimes and nitrogen fertilizer application. The experiment was a factorial fitted into a randomized complete block design and replicated four times. The treatments consisted of four nitrogen levels (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg N/ha) and four moisture regimes (every day, every five days, every ten days, and fifteen days). Data were collected on growth parameters (plant height, number of leaves per plant as well as yield component (seed yield per plant) Data were analyzed by the analysis of variance, using the GenStat 17th edition and significant means were separated by the least significant difference at 5% probability level. The result of the study revealed that increasing nitrogen levels from 0 to 90kgN/ha and moisture regimes from 15 days to every day resulted in a significant (p<0.05) increase in plant height, number of leaves and yield per plant and farmers are therefore encouraged to cultivate sesame crop using these rates for maximum yield. From the result of the study, using Nitrogen fertilizer at the rate 60 kgha-1 increased the growth and yield attribute of sesame and therefore should be encourage among farmers.

Vegetables support rural and urban population both in terms of subsistence and income generation. Its cultivation however presents with problems that can be reduced with the use of organic fertilizers. Therefore, there is a need to assess the use of organic fertilizer among vegetable growers as it directly affects yield of vegetables. This study was conducted in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State. Purposive and simple random sampling was used to select 120 respondents who were interviewed. Results from the study showed that the majority of the respondents (94%) were above 25 years while 77% of the farmers were females. A few number of the respondents (19%) had secondary education while many (50%) lack formal education. A large proportion (86%) of the respondents use organic fertilizer on their farms and 72% use a combination of poultry droppings and cow-dung to fertilize their farms on a regular basis (fortnightly). Offensive odour and transportation problems were among the prominent limitations to the use of organic fertilizer among the farmers. The study concludes that although vegetable farmers in the study area profusely use organic fertilizer, the yield is rather poor. It was therefore recommended that application should be supervised by relevant agencies to ensure correct levels of usage whilst research institutes need to devise means of reducing offensive smells of organic fertilizers.

Economic Analysis of Palm Kernel Nut Processing: Evidence from Ogun State, Southwestern Nigeria ABSTRACT Prior to ramping up advocacy for palm kernel nut processing as a means to diversify livelihood source, it becomes germane to look into the economic analysis of palm kernel nut processing as a way of proffering empirical based evidence on the status of the enterprise. The study was conducted in Ipokia Local Government Area, Ogun State, Nigeria. To select 40 palm kernel processors for the study, a multistage sampling approach was used. The study employed both descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings showed that the majority of processors were engaged in the extraction of palm kernel cake and oil from palm kernel nuts. Profit realized from the extraction of oil and cracking of palm kernel nut per ton per week was ₦57, 378.66 (USD 145.26) and ₦24, 775.11 (USD 62.72) with a return on investment of 1.37 and 1.32 respectively.
