Comparative effects of rosuvastatin and atorvastatin on glucose metabolism and adipokine levels in non-diabetic patients with dyslipidaemia: a prospective randomised open-label study

Abstract: Rosuvastatin compared with atorvastatin resulted in significant improvements in IS indices. No significant changes in adiponectin, leptin or hsCRP levels were observed at 4 and 12 weeks of treatment with either statin.

“…The statin was discontinued and the subjects were withdrawn from the study in case of drug intolerance, pregnancy, AST and/or ALT elevation >3x or CK >10x the upper limit of normal range. We used some serum samples from patients from our previously published study [14], kept at -27 0 C, if they fulfilled the present study’s criteria. We further extended the study by enrolling 19 patients (during the same seasonal period).…”

“…A high dose of atorvastatin (80 mg/day) resulted in increases in insulin levels and glycated albumin after 6-week treatment 36) . A lower dose of atorvastatin (20 mg per day) did not alter insulin concentrations, HOMA-IR, or HbA1c after 12-week treatment 37) . In another trial of an 8-week treatment 38) , however, atorvastatin (20 mg per day) resulted in a 3.0% increase in HbA1c, while no such increase was noted with rosuvastatin (10 mg/ day).…”

“…Por su parte, la atorvastatina no tuvo efecto sobre estos parámetros. Ninguna de estas estatinas alteró la glicemia en ayunas, el porcentaje de hemoglobina glicosilada ni los niveles de adiponectina 20 . Dado los disímiles resultados expuestos en el párrafo anterior, se ha reportado un meta-análisis que intenta evaluar en forma global el efecto de las estatinas sobre la RI.…”
