Comparative Evaluation of Antibacterial Properties and Phytochemical Profile of Selected Mangrove Plants from Bhitarkanika, India

Abstract: Different solvent extacts of Mangrove plants (Avicennia alba, Avicennia marina, Phoenix paludosa and Acanthus ilicifolius) from Bhitarkanika were evaluated for their antibacterial properties and phytochemical constituents. The phytochemicals profiling showed that the plants are rich source of secondary metabolites like saponin (6-14.0 %), tannin (2.22-.45 %) and phenol (1.07-1.82 %) etc. Among the mineral content, carbohydrate (10.46 %), nitrogen (1.79 %) and potassium dioxide (1.068 %) tops the table. “…Few biomimetic approaches have been established that are ecological and sustainable for the synthesis of nanoparticles. One of the fundamental processes in biomimetic is the bio-reductive process via microorganisms, enzymes, fungi, plants, and/or plant extracts (Patra et al, 2014;Klueh et al, 2000). For centuries, silver has been used for the treatment of burns, chronic wounds, venereal disease, fistulae from slivery glands, bone and perianal disease, and numerous bacterial infections.…”

“…), skin problems (dermatitis, itching, scabies, rash, wounds, scar, moles), goitre, and diabetes have all been treated with H. fomes plant parts. [22][23][24] Rhizophora trees are believed to have therapeutic qualities in traditional remedies. Root, leaf, and stem extracts from Rhizophora trees contain inhibitory effects that affect the growth of several human pathogenic bacteria.…”
