Comparative Evaluation of BND 50/70 Road Bitumen Modified With Skept-60 and SKN-26 Elastomers

Abstract: The article provides information on the physical and mechanical properties of polymer-bitumen compositions obtained by modifying road bitumen BND 50/70 with elastomers SKEPT-60 and SKN-26 and determination of the obtained polymer-bitumen composites. The properties of composite samples of various concentrations (2.5, 3.0, 5.0%, 6.5 and 7.0%) were determined: needle depth, softening, brittleness and flash point, stretching and adhesion. It was determined that the physical and mechanical characteristics of polyme… Show more

“…The obtained dependences allowed the authors to determine that the dielectric constant and adhesion change symbiotically: polymermodified bitumen compositions with a dielectric constant of 2.9 and higher have higher adhesion properties than those with a lower index. Our previous data on the adhesion properties of SKEPT-modified composites [23,24] generally correlate well with dielectric constant values exceeding this value for the SKN samples obtained here. This is also a consequence of the isolation of highly polar asphaltenes in compositions with SKEPT, whose orientational forces are not compensated in the dispersion medium, resulting in their observed strength.…”

“…As we previously found [23,24], the application of SKEPT-60 and SKN-26 has a significant effect on both the physicochemical and operational macro-properties of bitumen com-positions, such as needle penetration depth, softening temperature, adhesion, etc. was accompanied by such changes.…”

“…Considering that the need for this type of product increases every year, the attention of researchers is predictably directed to solving problems related to improving the quality of bituminous mate-rials, increasing its adhesive properties, resistance to temperature fluctuations, etc. [5][6][7][8][9][10].…”

“…Based on the results of studying the role of air oxygen and the effect of elevated temperature on bitumen in a thin film, the authors [4,[9][10][11] argue that the processes of irreversible structure formation in bitumen under these conditions proceed in three stages:…”
