Comparative Evaluation of Phytochemicals, and Antidiabetic and Antioxidant Activities of Cuscuta reflexa Grown on Different Hosts in Northern Thailand

Abstract: For the first time, total phytochemical profiles of methanol crude extracts of Cuscuta reflexa grown on three different hosts, Coccinia grandis, Ficus racemosa and Samanea saman, that were cultivated in northern Thailand were examined, along with their antidiabetic and antioxidant activities. The highest level of total flavonoids (114.4 mg QE/ g extract) and total phenolic content (90.8 mg GAE/ g extract) were observed in the extract of Cu. reflexa that was grown on Co. grandis. The GC-MS results showed that v… Show more

“…The supernatant was maintained in an ice bath and directly subjected to inhibitory assay. The α -glucosidase inhibitory assay was followed the procedure of Tanruean et al [ 51 ] with some modifications. Each extracted sample (10 μL) was mixed with α -glucosidase solution (30 μL) and incubated at 37 °C for 15 min.…”

“…Phytochemical analysis of the essential oils was determined according to the previous research of Tanruean et al [ 48 ]. The extracts were analyzed for their phytochemicals using a gas chromatography (GC) 6890 Agilent Technologies/MSD 5973 Hewlett Packard, equipped with a MS detector and an HP-5MS capillary column (bonded and cross-linked 5% phenyl-methylpolysiloxane 30 × 0.25 µm, film thickness 0.25 µm).…”

“…The DPPH antiradical assay was executed to explore scavenging effect of understudy C. reflexa extracts. The IC 50 values of all samples and positive control (BHA) at various concentrations are shown in [15,30,37] The difference in antiradical effect could be attributed to different host plants, extracting methods and solvents used to dissolve endogenous compounds.…”
