Comparative evaluation of retention, cariostatic effect and discoloration of conventional and hydrophilic sealants - A single blinded randomized split mouth clinical trial

Abstract: Introduction:Pit and fissures are approximately eight times vulnerable than the smooth surface caries lesion. Sealants are effective in preventing, arresting, and progression of pit-and-fissure occlusal caries lesions. The failure of sealant resin-based retention is mainly attributed to the moisture contamination. To overcome this drawback, UltraSeal XT® hydro, a moisture-friendly sealant, has been introduced.Aim:This study aimed to compare and evaluate the retention, cariostatic effect, and discoloration of c… Show more

“…Smokeless tobacco usage has been associated with increased caries prevalence due to presence of sweeteners present in chewing tobacco. Thus caries prevention in tobacco users can be prevented by use of sealants in the younger age group (Khatri et al, 2019;Prabakar et al, 2018b,a,c), luoride application (Kumar and Preethi, 2017) nutritional counselling (Neralla et al, 2019), remineralising dentifrice (Mohapatra et al, 2019;Prabakar et al, 2018b) and regular dental visits (Kumar and Preethi, 2017;Kannan et al, 2017). With this background the present study intended to ind the association of tobacco dependence and oral hygiene status.…”

“…In a study by Santhosh Kumar et al, among dental undergraduate students yielded better results, the dental students had good knowledge and awareness on biomedical waste management, but the overall practice of biomedical waste management was poor (Bansal et al, 2013;Kumar and Rahman, 2017). Previously numerous randomised clinical trials (Prabakar et al, 2018b;Pratha and Prabakar, 2019;Prabakar et al, 2018a), have been done previously by our team along with cross-sectional studies, (Prabakar et al, 2016;Kumar and Vijayalakshmi, 2017;Kumar and Preethi, 2017) and in vitro studies (Mohapatra et al, 2019;Prabhakar et al, 2011) and systematic reviews (Harini and Leelavathi, 2019;Pavithra and Jayashri, 2019), in the last 4 years.…”

Early childhood caries (ECC) (Samuel et al, 2020), luorosis (Kumar and Vijayalakshmi, 2017) pit and issures (Prabakar et al, 2018a;Khatri et al, 2019;Prabakar et al, 2018c) are approximately eight times more vulnerable than the smooth surface caries lesion.…”
