Comparative Power Quality analysis of Conventional and Modified DSTATCOM Topology

Abstract: In this paper, the two topologies of Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) such as conventional DSTATCOM and modified DSTATCOM with their performances are investigated in terms of power quality improvement. Normally the DSTATCOM has shunt voltage source inverter (VSI) connected to point of common coupling (PCC) through the interfacing inductor. It is possible to modify DSTATCOM by connecting a capacitor in series with the interface inductor at the point of common coupling. This Modified topology requires … Show more

“…25 Most of the industrial loads require stable voltages and high quality power for their processes. A VSC approximately generates a pure sinusoidal AC waveform of preferred magnitude and phase for these industrial loads, 31 which is why there is always a need of better control design for VSC to produce high quality voltage at their output. 32 There are many control strategies such as direct quadrature (dq), 33 state feedback, 34 instantaneous reactive power (IRP) theory, 35 self-tuning, 36 phase shift control, 37 model reference adaptive, 38 vector template method, 39 current control decoupled pq theory, 40 synchronous reference frame theory (SRF), 41 regulated voltage at PCC and dc link with proportional-integral (PI) controller, 42 instantaneous symmetrical components, 43 PI and P + resonant controller 5 for VSC of DSTATCOM.…”

“…The basic of STATCOM is to regulate flow of power and recover transient stability of power system. A vast investigation of different DSTATCOM topologies has been discussed in [11][12][13][14][15]. The performance of a DSTATCOM in power quality alleviation is definitely based on rapidness and perfectness of its control approaches.…”
