Comparative study of Misgav-Ladach and Pfannenstiel-Kerr cesarean techniques: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract: The operation-related morbidity of the MLM and PKM for primary C/S seem to be comparable; however, the MLM seems to be superior in terms of operation time and the amount of suture usage but inferior in pain scores in the early postoperative period.

“…Also, the reduction in operative time was authenticated to be associated with economic advantages due to less suture costs, less anesthesia needs, and a shorter hospitalization [18,19]. Our data were consistent with previous reports regarding the reduction in the number of used sutures with the MLM and MMLM (p ˂ 0.001) [6,15]. MLM and MMLM were reported to decrease blood loss in cesarean section in comparison to the conventional Pfannenstiel incision [18,19].…”

“…To the Editor, In 1995, I described a modified Cesarean Section (CS), the so-called "Misgav Ladach" method (1) which gained international usage, including both in Turkey (2) and in Germany (3). There are scores of publications from many countries, all showing without exception a notably shorter operative time, and fewer complications of wound healing and reduced hospital stay.…”
