Comparative study on the tensile performance of box frames constructed by keyed joints and dovetail joints

Abstract: The box frame is a common structure in modern furniture, especially for cabinets. Accordingly, the joint contact force of the frame is important in evaluating the stability of classified furniture. In this study, a new type of keyed joint was proposed to alter the dovetail joint used in box frame structures. The tensile strength of the dovetail joint and the keyed joint in the frame were evaluated, and the contact forces and failure modes of these two joints were compared. Three levels (T1, T2, and T3) were pr… Show more

“…The overall thickness of the 3Dprinted PLA models is equal to the sum of the top/bottom shell thickness and the thickness of the infill structure. As the thickness of the top/bottom shell increased, the thickness of the infill structure decreased accordingly (Wang et al 2020). Unlike the low-density crossthin-wall layout of the infill structure, the top/bottom shell was solid, which resulted in an increase in the load-bearing area of the top/bottom shell.…”

“…The bulging deformation causes shear stresses to be generated at the interlayer adhesive interface where the bonding force is weak. Under the influence of shear stress, the grooves and gaps are prone to stress concentration and lead to the cracking of the interlayer adhesive interface (Wang et al 2020). The microscopic morphology of the layer separation region is shown in Fig.…”

“…The PETG filament is one of the few bio-based 3D printing consumables with high toughness, impact strength, that is basically odorless when printing, and exhibits excellent processing and moulding performances, with a broad application prospect in the field of 3D printing (Wang et al 2020). In actual production, PETG products manufactured by conventional moulding methods, such as extrusion moulding, injection moulding, and blow moulding, usually have excellent light transmittance performance, whereas PETG products produced by the fused deposition method (FDM) of 3D printing process have poor light transmittance performance (Yang et al 2022).…”
