Comparative thermal performance evaluation of an active solar distillation system

Abstract: SUMMARYIn this paper, thermal models of all types of solar collector-integrated active solar stills are developed based on basic energy balance equations in terms of inner and outer glass temperatures. In this paper, hourly yield, hourly exergy efficiency, and hourly overall thermal efficiency of active solar stills are evaluated for 0.05 m water depth. All numerical computations had been performed for a typical day in the month of 07 December 2005 for the climatic conditions of New Delhi (28835 0 N, 77812 0 E… Show more

“…evaluated the performance of evacuated tubular collector integrated solar still system (EISS) under forced mode. Tiwari et al [68] modeled and evaluated the thermal performance of different active solar still integrated with FPC, concentrating collector (CC), and ETC with and without heat pipe. However, the investment cost of the EISS was about 3.5 times than single slope solar still.…”

“…Kumar and Tiwari (1998) have optimized the number of collectors and basin area for higher yield for a given depth of active solar still. Tiwari et al (2007) have studied the comparative performance evaluation of an active solar distillation system and evaluated the theoretical yield from solar stills coupled with flat plate collector, concentrating collector, evacuated tube collector, and evacuated tube collector with heat pipe.…”
