Comparative transcriptome analysis of matched primary and distant metastatic ovarian carcinoma

Abstract: BackgroundHigh grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) is the most common subtype of epithelial ovarian cancers (EOC) with poor prognosis. In most cases EOC is widely disseminated at the time of diagnosis. Despite the optimal cytoreductive surgery and chemotherapy most patients develop chemoresistance, and the 5-year overall survival being only 25–35%.MethodsHere we analyzed the gene expression profiles of 10 primary HGSOC tumors and 10 related omental metastases using RNA sequencing and identified 100 differen… Show more

“…These results propose that the microenvironment of abdominal metastases did not strongly affect the global RNA expression patterns of cancer cells, although the cancer cells have invaded and proliferated in a different organ, and imply that the metastatic capacity was probably acquired at an early stage during tumorigenesis. In contrast, previous studies based on bulk RNA profiling have reported several differences between primary tumors and metastases ( 32–34 ). Such contradiction may be caused by different technologies used in the researches.…”

“…Along with the development of new technologies and increasing their availability, the number of studies and new discoveries is growing. Recently, potential biomarkers of colon cancer [25], ovarian cancer [26], hepatocellular carcinoma [27], and endometrial cancer [28] have been selected. Similarly, in the case of the proteome, its analysis reveals detailed information on the activity of individual proteins or protein families, which is valuable in the diagnosis of various diseases, including cancer.…”

“…The high-throughput gene expression pro les of ovarian cancer primary tissues and peritoneal metastasis tissues were extracted from the GEO database (GSE98281) [6]. The DEGs between primary tissues and peritoneal metastasis tissues were analysed by R 3.4 (edgeR and LIMMA package).…”
