Comparing Labetalol and Nitroglycerine on Inducing Controlled Hypotension and Intraoperative Blood Loss in Rhinoplasty: A Single-Blinded Clinical Trial

Abstract: BackgroundUncontrolled bleeding during surgery is one of the main predisposing factors for failure of the surgeon and complications following rhinoplasty. The current study aimed at comparing the effects of nitroglycerine and labetalol on the induction of controlled hypotension and bleeding volume during septorhinoplasty.MethodsThe current randomized, controlled, clinical trial enrolled 60 patients candidate for septorhinoplasty at Firoozgar hospital in Tehran, Iran, in 2 equal groups receiving either 0.1 to 1… Show more

“…Labetalol combines an α1 blocking effect and beta-adrenergic blocking activity to reduce systemic vascular resistance, with little effect on cardiac output [5,6]. Both drugs were previously compared during controlled hypotension with regard to surgical field quality and blood loss [6][7][8][9]. To date, however, no study has compared the effects of both drugs on peripheral perfusion.…”

“…Surgery is an important treatment for trauma patients. Appropriate inhibition of the intraoperative stress response is critical for patients undergoing surgeries . Remifentanil has been confirmed to have excellent antioxidative properties, as well as to inhibit the production of inflammatory factors and alleviate the damage of tissue and organ reperfusion injury …”

“…Ghodraty M et al compared Labetalol and Nitroglycerine on Inducing Controlled Hypotension and Intraoperative Blood Loss in Rhinoplasty [11]. Results were based on the study findings, systolic (P < 0.001), diastolic (P = 0.002), and the mean arterial blood pressures (P < 0.001) were significantly lower in the nitroglycerine group.…”
