Comparing single oral contrast-enhanced ultrasonography and double contrast-enhanced ultrasonography in the preoperative Borrmann classification of advanced gastric cancer

Abstract: ObjectivesTo evaluate the accuracy of double contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (DCEUS) in preoperative Borrmann classification of advanced gastric cancer (AGC).Materials and MethodsA total of 162 patients histologically confirmed AGC were enrolled into this study. Single oral contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (SOCEUS) were performed in 80 patients and DCEUS (intravenous microbubbles combined with oral contrast-enhanced ultrasound) were performed in 82 patients preoperatively. The findings of the histopathologi… Show more

“…As one of the most common malignant tumors, GC has attracted increased attention from surgeons in China (Wang et al 2018a(Wang et al , 2018b. With the specialization and standardization of comprehensive surgical treatment for GC, the correct pre-operative staging of GC has become a prerequisite for determining the treatment options for patients (Zhu 2016).…”

“…They believe that DCEUS has certain application prospects in prognosis assessment. Some Chinese scholars have used DCEUS to assess the accuracy of Borrmann staging in patients with GC and believe that DCEUS is better than OCEUS and multi-layer CT in some respects (Pan et al 2013;Yan et al 2016;Wang et al 2018aWang et al , 2018b.…”

“…According to the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) pathological staging gastric cancer (24), in the experimental group, 109 patients were at stage I+II, and 111 patients were at stage IIIa+IIIb; while in the control group, 116 patients were at stage I+II, and 93 patients were at stage IIIa+IIIb. According to the Borrmann type (25), in the experimental group, 54 patients were at stage I+II, and 166 patients were at stage III+IV; while in the control group, 51 patients were at stage I+II, and 158 patients were at stage III+IV. There was no statistical difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of tumor stage, Borrmann type, differentiation degree, history of Helicobacter pylori infection, history of peptic ulcer, and preexperimental treatment (P>0.05).…”

“…In the control group, there were 55 males and 25 females, aged 43–68 years, with an average age of 51.39±10.17 years. According to the Borrmann classification (17), there were 23 cases of type I, 22 cases of type II, 16 cases of type III, and 19 cases of type IV in the observation group. The inclusion criteria were: diagnosis of gastric cancer was confirmed by pathology, and the clinical, imaging and histopathological data were complete; the healthy group was examined in the physical examination center of Dongying People's Hospital and the results were normal, without other types of tumors, heart, liver, kidney and other important organ diseases, and no family members had a history of cancer.…”
