Comparison Between GDx VCC Parameter and Achromatic Perimetry in Glaucoma Patients

Abstract: Some of the GDx VCC indices were significantly correlated to visual field indices in glaucomatous patients, but NFI was the best indicator of visual field damage.

“…Another study applied a design similar to ours, except for not including MRI: Bowd et al 5 showed that VF sensitivity was associated with RNFL/optic disc measurements of up to r 2 ϭ 0.26 for SLT, r 2 ϭ 0.21 for SLP, and r 2 ϭ 0.38 for OCT. Hood et al 6 found r ϭ 0.82 for the upper hemifield and r ϭ 0.70 for the lower hemifield when comparing SAP with OCT. Iester et al 28 pointed out that, among other parameters, the NFI correlated best with the MD, as we noted in our multivariate analysis. Leung et al 15 observed a good concordance between OCT and SLP in POAG, with a slightly better correlation between MD and RNFL thickness when measured with OCT compared with SLP.…”

“…There are significant differences, not only according to the instruments used, but also when the same instruments are used. For example, with HRT, few authors have obtained maximum correlations between 0.52 [15] and 0.77 [16], using GDF between −0.35 [17] and 0.78 [18] and using OCT between 0.51 [19] and 0.85 [20]. …”

“…Reus and Lemij 26 found a significant correlation between GDx VCC retardation and the sensitivity as measured with the HFA. Iester et al 27 reported that some of the GDx VCC indices significantly correlated with visual field indices in glaucomatous patients (NFI, r=-0.35; superior average, r=0.28; TSNIT average, r=-0.24; inferior average, r=0.21). Our current result is in agreement with previous reports that stated that, in glaucomatous eyes, there was a significant correlation between a visual field index (MD and PSD) and some of the parameters yielded by GDx VCC.…”
