Comparison Between Numerical Flow3d Software and Laboratory Data, For Sediment Incipient Motion.

Abstract: In this paper, the laboratory data were compared with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) Flow3D for predicting the beginning of sediment incipient motion in rigid boundary channel for two types of sands, irrigation, and sewer types, in rectangular flume (0.5*0.5)m cross-section. Tests were made for soil samples with different diameters, specific weights. The testing was performed in slopes ranging from 0.001-0.003 for irrigation types and 0.0025-0.025 for sewer types depending on the original parameter. The Fl… Show more

“…The diversion dam's northern and southern sections, known as Ramadi Barrage, were built on the Euphrates River in the 1950s. The main job of the north of Barrage is to raise the river's water level if needed so that water can flow through the southern Barrage [10,11,12]. The Euphrates is controlled by the Warrar Regulator, which dumps extra floodwater into Habbaniyeh Lake.…”

“…Many numerical investigations are found on HJs and energy dissipation using various numerical codes; however, Table 1 highlights a few of the most relevant studies dealing with HJs and energy dissipators. 1, some studies, e.g., [39,40,43,44,47,50,51,56], have focused HJs and their associated parameters such as velocity, free surface profile, sequent depths, roller lengths, and turbulent kinetics energy, whereas other researchers have investigated energy dissipation [41,45,46,48,[53][54][55] and scour [42,49] downstream of different hydraulic structures. However, except for the 1D Hydrologic Engineering Center River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) study on Taunsa barrage, the literature did not reveal any study that studied the effects of tailwater on the HJ and flow pattern in the barrage's basin.…”

“…FLOW3D has been applied to numerous research fields such as hydraulic structure design (Musall and Oberle 2014;Fuentes-Pérez et al 2022;Song and Vu 2012), weir and dam analysis (Hu et al 2018), scour processing (Behnam et al 2016), sediment transport (Kosaj et al 2022), flow resistance of vegetation (Abdurrasheed et al 2019;Fard 2020), and flood management (Gems et al 2016). Besides, this CFD platform simulates regular linear and nonlinear waves (Stokes, Stockes and Cnoidal, and Solitary) as well as random waves.…”
