“…We believe that the increase in the number of infections in direct-admitted patients resulted from the increased number of eHRB in the community in patients without previous contact with the health care system. Even if carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae were usually associated with hospital dissemination [33], it has been recently reported that strains-producing carbapenemases dissemination occurs outside the hospital [34], and that CRE/CPE and VRE were frequently identified in hospital and community wastewater [35], which may reflect the dissemination of these strains, in particular VREs, in the community.
