Mangroves are one of the ecosystems that play an essential role in mitigating climate change by storing and absorbing CO2. One of the mangrove areas that can be found in Jepara Regency in Teluk Awur and Tanggul Tlare. Both of these areas is experiencing coastal abrasion, which impacts the land and mangrove areas. The reduced area of mangroves affects the ability of the ecosystem to store and absorb CO2. This study intends to determine the potential for CO2 absorption in above-ground, below-ground, and mangrove sediments. The method used in determining the station point is the purposive sampling method. While the analysis of the calculation of standing carbon storage uses allometric equations in sediments using the LOI method (Loss on Ignition). The potential for carbon absorption above-ground station 1 is 75.12 Ton.ha-1, below-ground is 51.48 Ton.ha-1, and sediment is 286.49 Ton.ha-1. While the potential for CO2 absorption at station 2 consists of 28.27 Ton.ha-1 above ground, 19.86 Ton.ha-1 underground, and 243.73 Ton.ha-1 of sediment. Based on the study’s results, the potential for CO2 absorption in the mangrove area in Teluk Awur can store more carbon than in the Tanggul Tlare mangrove area, this is supported by the diameter of the mangrove stems in Teluk Awur which has a higher size.

Mangrove forests are important for human life and the surrounding environment, one of which is as a CO2 absorber and carbon storage. The North Coast of Cawan Island in Indragiri Hilir has a relatively good mangrove forest that is estimated to absorb and store more carbon. This study aims to (1) estimate the value of carbon storage in stands (stems), below-ground carbon (roots), litter, and sediment of mangrove forests, (2) estimate the CO2 absorption capacity of mangrove forests, and (3) estimate the economic value of absorption CO2 by mangrove forest on the North Coast of Cawan Island. The station determination method uses purposive sampling of five stations, each consisting of a transect with three plots measuring 10x10 m2. Measurement of stem and root biomass using the allometric method. Litter biomass measurement used the dry weight weighing method, and sediment carbon measurement used the Loss on Ignition (LOI) method. The result showed that average carbon storage in stems was 34.56 tons/ha, roots were 16.41 tons/ha, litter was 0.10 tons/ha, and sediment was 32.91 tons/ha. The estimated ability of mangrove forests to absorb CO2 is an average of 187.10 tons/ha or 636,450.59 tonnes for the entire North Coast of Cawan Island. The estimated economic value of mangrove forest carbon is an average of IDR 149,809,099 /ha or IDR 509,599,619,024 for the entire North Coast of Cawan Island.

Mangroves are typical plants that live in coastal areas that are affected by tides and are able to adapt to salinity. Mangroves are able to absorb and store carbon. The aims of this study to analyze carbon absorption in the mangrove vegetation of Sumbernadi Village. The research was conducted from June-July 2023 in Sumbernadi Village, Ketapang District, South Lampung, Province of Lampung. Mangrove carbon measurements in mangrove stands, necromass and litter were carried out using non-destructive methods. The carbon stored in sediment is greater than carbon stored in stands, necromass and litter. The highest carbon stored in sediment is in sediment that has coarse clay because coarse clay can store high levels of nutrients.
