Comparison of chemiluminescence methods for analysis of hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radicals

Abstract: Assessment of alpha radiolysis influence on the chemistry of geologically disposed spent fuel demands analytical methods for radiolytic product determination at trace levels. Several chemiluminescence methods for the detection of radiolytic oxidants hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radicals are tested. Two of hydrogen peroxide methods use luminol, catalyzed by either µ-peroxidase or hemin, one uses 10-methyl-9-(p-formylphenyl)-acridinium carboxylate trifluoromethanesulfonate and one potassium periodate. “…However, the traditional CL catalysts are limited due to their poor catalytical effect in the lower concentrations of luminol and H 2 O 2 . [20][21][22] Nanotechnology opens the door to innovations. Chromiumbased catalysts have been widely applied in polymerization, hydrogenation and dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons, dehydrogenation of alcohols to produce aldehydes, ketones and alkenes, dehydrocyclization of paraffins, water gas shi reaction and decomposition, and so on.…”

“…The hydrogen peroxide-potassium periodate-potassium carbonate chemiluminescence system was employed in a FIA system for the determination of (a) trace amounts of H 2 O 2 in snow water [145], (b) of H 2 O 2 produced from the radiolysis of geologically disposed spent fuel [146] and (c) of sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate salt based on its enhanced CL-emission effect [147].…”
