Comparison of Core Needle Biopsy and Excision Specimens for the Accurate Evaluation of Breast Cancer Molecular Markers: a Report of 1003 Cases

Abstract: In this study, we compared the accuracy of marker evaluation in core needle biopsy (CNB) specimens versus excision specimens (ESs) from breast cancer patients. “…Identifying HER2-positive breast cancer patients by CNB is important, as neoadjuvant HER2-targeted therapy is an effective option for these patients. In this study, the CR for HER2 status, as determined by HER2 IHC or reflex HER2 SISH, was as high as 99.7% (kappa, 0.988), which was higher than most previous reports (ranging from 61%-97.3%) [10,[18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29].
