Comparison of Diagnostic Ability Between Wide-Field Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography Imaging Maps and Heidelberg Retina Tomograph 3 Optic Nerve Head Assessment to Discriminate Glaucomatous and Non-glaucomatous Eyes

Abstract: BackgroundIn this study, we aimed to determine the diagnostic performance of optic nerve head (ONH), macular, and circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (cpRNFL) thickness measurements of wide-field maps (12 × 9 mm) using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) compared to measurements of the ONH and RNFL parameters measured by Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (HRT3). MethodologyThis case-control study included 39 eyes of 39 glaucoma patients and 36 eyes of 36 normal subjects (control group). All part… Show more

“…All participants underwent thorough ocular examinations including best-corrected distance visual acuity measurements using a Snellen chart (LC1300B; AnnoTek, Shiraz, Iran), intraocular pressure measurement using Goldmann applanation tonometry (AT900; Haag-Streit, Koeniz, Switzerland), anterior segment examination using a slit lamp (SL 3C slit lamp; Topcon Inc., Tokyo, Japan), and fundus examination under a slit lamp using a Volk 90 D lens (Volk Optical Inc., Mentor, OH, USA). The cpRNFLT was measured using swept-source OCT (SS-OCT) (DRI-OCT Triton; Topcon Inc.) [ 15 ] .…”

“…The eyes were categorized into two groups: the control group, comprising healthy eyes, and the glaucoma group, consisting of eyes with glaucoma [ 23 ]. This classification was determined based on the results of VF tests and the ONH appearance as established in our prior study [ 24 ]. The control group consisted of subjects who satisfied all the following criteria in both eyes: (1) no previous intraocular surgery, (2) IOP of ≤22 mmHg, (3) clinically normal disc appearance, (4) a normal VF result defined as a mean deviation (MD) and pattern standard deviation (PSD) within 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and a glaucoma hemifield test (GHT) result within normal limits (WNL), and (5) no other significant ophthalmic findings.…”

“…Modern imaging technology, such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), has improved the ability to detect and analyze glaucomatous damage [ 7 , 8 ]. POAG manifestations involving the primary optic nerve and the retinal nerve fiber layer and examination of the associated parameters have become a standard of care for monitoring patients with glaucoma [ 9 ].…”
