“…Chossegross et al [6] evaluated the result of inter positional materials placed in 25 patients (32 joints) with at least 3 years of follow-up. Good results were achieved in 92% of cases using total full-thickness skin graft and 83% of cases using temporal muscle flap.…”

“…Several accounts on the epidemiology of Temporomandibular joint ankylosis already exist in the literature [11][12][13][14][15]. In terms of age and gender distribution the results of the present report states that equal distribution (male: 51.1 %-23 cases, female: 48.9 %-22 cases) of this problem posed between both genders when compared with that of Chossegros [16,17], Nitzan [18] where a higher prevalence of females were seen. It is however pertinent to mention that a significant proportion of our patients presented within the second and third decade of life (42.2 %-19 cases) when compared to those of Obiechina [15] where patients presented within the first decades of life, a fact alluded to by Topazian [19] and Faerber [20], Chidzonga [3].…”

“…Fracture of costochondral graft in temporomandibular joint reconstructive surgery has been reported by Merkx and Freihofer [27]. No alloplastic implants were used in this study though many studies like that of Chidzonga [3], Chossegros et al [19], Kaban et al [6], Salins [28], Chossegros et al [17], recommend their use. Measurement of inter-incisal opening distance is the most objective criterion for diagnosis and follow-up.…”

“…Finally, distraction osteogenesis, orthognathic surgery and esthetic surgery have been described after the treatment of the ankylosis to manage the facial deformity (Chossegros et al, 1997;Kearns, 1999;Gunsseeian, 1997;Guven, 2004).…”
