Comparison of Effects of Using Geosynthetics and Lime Stabilization to Increase Bearing Capacity of Unpaved Road Subgrade

Abstract: So many soil improvement methods have been developed in order to increase bearing capacity of superstructure of the road to be constructed on the soft clayey road base soils, decrease settlements, and increase other strength specifications (CBR,k,MRvalues, etc.). In this paper, lime stabilization of clayey road base soil with high water content and its improvement with geosynthetics (geocell + geotextile) reinforcement and comparisons of these two different improvement methods were made. For this purpose, plat… Show more

“…Almost all the construction technologies were outdated, non-efficient, and in many cases unsafe for use [1][2][3]. Becoming open to new technologies and structural materials provided a strong impact for modernization of the entire construction industry, and until nowadays this trend is still being observed [4][5][6][7][8]. Lack of planning and poor economy management resulted in a huge production of waste, both municipal and industrial, which in many cases were deposited without any control [3][4][5].…”

“…This effect gradually reduces with time as the soil itself becomes stronger due to consolidation and the JGT biodegrades. Hence, JGT is helping in rapid construction of roads like other synthetic geotextiles as also reported by Pancar and Akpınar [15].…”

“…Geosynthetics have recently found wide application in the design and construction of embankment-type landfills. This application has been triggered by the economic and technical advantages that geosynthetics can offer when compared to more traditional materials [8][9][10]. The geogrids used in the construction process should maintain their performance characteristics up to 100 years, according to the standards.…”
