Comparison of efficacy of narrow band UVB therapies with UVB alone, in combination with calcipotriol, and with betamethasoneand calcipotriol in vitiligo

Abstract: In conclusion, NB-UVB-alone therapy and the combined therapies are effective treatment options in the treatment of vitiligo. Future studies with larger groups are warranted to confirm our results.

“…The hypotheses were as follows: (i) Repigmentation percentages of VASI and VETFa after 6 months will be ≥ 15% . (ii) There will be an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) ≥ 0·6 between the repigmentation percentages of VASI and VETFa and the percentages of improvement assessed by the treating physician.…”

[12][13][14][15][16][17] (ii) There will be an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) ≥ 0Á6 between the repigmentation percentages of VASI and VETFa and the percentages of improvement assessed by the treating physician. (iii) Lesions in the face will have ≥ 10% higher repigmentation than lesions on the hands, as determined by VASI; and ≥ 10% higher than lesions on the hands and arms as determined by VETFa.…”

“…Despite many existing treatment modalities, the response is largely variable, sometimes requiring prolong and robust treatment course [1]. The combination treatment with phototherapy and topical medications often shows superior degree of improvement compared to topical treatment monotherapy [5][6][7].…”

“…The combination of the above treatment modalities was selected due to several reasons: Although data on prostaglandin use in vitiligo treatment are modest, therapeutic results are encouraging , and latanoprost combined with NB‐UVB is superior over either one ; Needling is used for treating localized vitiligo alone or in combination with NB‐UVB with quite satisfying therapeutic results . Up to now, nobody investigated microneedling with Dermaroller ® , an improved device for needling with controlled needle penetration depth, as a vitiligo therapeutic modality ; NB‐UVB is considered as a “golden standard” in vitiligo treatment with high repigmentation rate, which is further increased when combined with other therapeutic options . …”
