OptimizatiOn Of COal Overburden exCavatiOn COnsidering variable geOme-ChaniCal prOperties and states Of exCavatOr teethWe examine the impact of overburden geomechanical properties on the velocity of the excavator rotary movement V b and on the excavator current consumption I max for two different states of excavator teeth: new excavator teeth and worn-out teeth after minimum 250h of work. the analysed dataset is collected from recordings made by the bucket-wheel excavator Schrs 900 25/6 operating at "tamnava eastern field" open-pit coal mine in Serbia. the following geomechanical properties of the overburden are examined: grain size composition, unit weight, cohesion and angle of internal friction. Using multiple linear regression analysis, we develop explicit mathematical correlations between I max and V b and the overburden properties in a form of nonlinear equations for the case of new excavator teeth, while statistically significant correlation for the worn-out teeth is obtained only between overburden geomechanical properties and I max . Results obtained indicate the existence of statistically significant two-factor interactions with positive effect of overburden unit weight and angle of internal friction on I max and V b , while cohesion is generally inversely proportional to the analysed outputs. Analysis performed enables optimized planning of the excavator performance regarding its productivity during the overburden excavation.

As is known from the classic works on open pit mining, the bench is a separately developed part of the rock layer, having the form of a step. It should also be noted that it is necessary to clearly differentiate the concepts of “bench height” and “height of the layer to be removed.” The benches are often divided into subbenches, developed by different excavation equipment or by the same equipment both sequentially and simultaneously, but having transport routes that are uniform for the bench. As an example, an excavator stripping of the upper and lower subbenches with loading, respectively, at the level of the excavator and above this level, is usually given, that is, the transport route (road) passes through an intermediate platform bench located in the middle of its height. Therefore, the excavation layer of any height, which is, in fact, a part of the working bench, can be considered as an independent bench with all its attributes, but in order to avoid duplication of definitions, this paper suggests the name “extraction layer”. When developing this element various digging modes can be applied. In this paper, we studied the main modes and selected the one that provides the highest performance.

Parameters of Transition from Deepening Longitudinal to Continuous Lateral Surface Mining Methods to Decrease Environmental Damage in Coal Clusters

The present paper deals with an original way to reduce the environmental damage caused to land and air resources by surface coal mines with external dumping, due to the transition to internal dumping with filling the worked out space of the surface mine with overburden. The basic principle of the proposed idea is the transition from the deepening longitudinal mining method for the development of inclined and steep coal seam strata to lateral ones. This article substantiates the choice of technology for a block-and-layer continuous lateral mining method, including the construction of a first-stage pit, the use of a combined transport and direct dumping technology for moving overburden to an internal dump when mining blocks using draglines. The advantage of the presented technology, along with filling the internal capacity of the surface mine field with overburden, is the possibility of leveling the relief within the boundaries of the pit allotment and the implementation of reclamation as the mining front moves forward, without waiting for the dump to be completely filled in the boundary contours. Attention is also paid to the economic benefits of block-layer technology and the continuous lateral mining method, in the transition to which the overburden transporting costs can be significantly reduced, while the limitations of the proposed method’s implementation concern specific coal deposits that make up a small part of the fields being developed today by surface mining.
