Comparison of functional exercise capacity, quality of life and respiratory and peripheral muscle strength between patients with stable angina and healthy controls

Abstract: Objective We aimed to compare functional exercise capacity, respiratory and peripheral muscle strength, pulmonary function and quality of life between patients with stable angina and healthy controls. Methods We compared 33 patients with stable angina (55.21 ± 6.12 years old, Canada Class II–III, left ventricular ejection fraction: 61.92 ± 7.55) and 30 healthy controls (52.70 ± 4.22 years old). Functional capacity (6-minute walk test (6-MWT)), respiratory muscle strength (mouth pressure device), peripheral mus… Show more

“…Second, unlike healthy individuals, CVD patients are also likely to engage in prolonged sitting episodes after they had engaged in higher‐than‐usual physical activity in the preceding hours. CVD patients are typically less physically fit compared with their healthy peers, for instance in terms of maximal oxygen uptake 18 . Because of this, they may experience previous physical activity as more strenuous and, as a result, they may experience a stronger subjective need to rest, which in turn prevents them from standing up while sitting 19 .…”

“…The physician interested in tracking a patient with coronary artery disease may choose from a number of aspects to measure; biometrics, such as cardio-respiratory function, haematological markers, electrocardiogram signals or images from coronary angiography ( Gillen and Goyal, 2022 ). Coronary artery disease has a negative effect on health-related quality of life and limits exercise tolerance, while angor amini, a sense of impending doom, is a well-known symptom of acute coronary syndrome and may also be worthy of checking ( Goldbeck-Wood, 2019 ; Huzmeli et al, 2020 ). Therefore, to complete the clinical picture, the physician may need to gather data from a range of facets.…”
