Comparison of HRRT and HR+ Scanners for Quantitative (R)-[11C]verapamil, [11C]raclopride and [11C]flumazenil Brain Studies

Abstract: Quantification of kinetic parameters based on plasma-input models leads to comparable results when spatial resolution between HRRT and HR+ data is matched. When using reference-tissue models, differences remain that are likely caused by differences in attenuation and scatter corrections and/or image reconstruction.

“…The FWHM was estimated based on the post reconstruction smoothing and was set such to meet EARL specifications in order to match the image resolution obtained from both systems used [20]. It should be noted that the PSF depends on the position in the scanner [13, 21]. Henceforth, an estimate of PSF was used in this study which might lead to some bias depending on the positioning of the object.…”

“…[ 11 C]PIB (Pittsburgh compound B) is an amyloid tracer with low to intermediate grey to white matter contrast in AD subjects and with an inverse grey to white matter contrast in healthy subjects. Dynamic [ 11 C]FMZ and [ 11 C]PIB scans from previously reported studies [21, 23] were used in this study. [ 11 C]PIB data were derived from four patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and from four healthy subjects.…”

“…The absolute percentage difference of the two radioligands in one monkey was less than 3% in the putamen and less than 9% in the caudate (Table 1). These differences were considered to be comparable with the test-retest variability of ([ 11 C]methyl)raclopride published in the literature [33,34]. …”

“…In recent years, there has been considerable progress in developing more advanced data correction and reconstruction for the HRRT [ 2 – 5 ]. However, the HRRT still suffers from inaccuracies in scatter correction [ 6 , 7 ]. The number of scattered events can amount to 56 % of the total number of events [ 8 ].…”
