Comparison of insulin lispro mix 25 with insulin lispro mix 50 as insulin starter in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (CLASSIFY study): Subgroup analysis of a Phase 4 open‐label randomized trial

Abstract: Highlights• Insulin lispro mix 25 (LM25) and insulin lispro mix 50 (LM50) were compared as starter insulin in Chinese patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus.• LM50 was superior to LM25 in terms of hyperglycemia control measured by HbA1c.• LM50 was more effective than LM25 at reducing HbA1c in patients with baseline HbA1c, blood glucose excursion, and postprandial glucose greater than or equal to median levels. More subjects in the LM50 than LM25 group achieved HbA1c targets of <7.0 % (72.4 % vs 45.0 %; P = 0.0… Show more

“…Change from baseline in HbA1c was not different between treatment groups for Japanese subjects with lower than median baseline HbA1c, PPG, FBG, or carbohydrate intake subgroups (Supplementary Table 4). A similar result was also noted in the whole-trial population [16,18].…”

“…TDD of insulin, and bolus/basal ratio in our findings also indicate that more therapeutic emphasis be put on postprandial hyperglycemia ( Table 2). The CLASSIFY study shows mid mixture insulin formula (Humalog1 Mix 50, LM50) better suits patients with higher PPG and carbohydrate-rich diet than low mixture insulin formula (Humalog1 Mix 25, LM 25) in our population [34]. Yet mid mixture of insulin formulations are usually unavailable in secondary institutions like SMH.…”

ERRATUMIn [1], the data under the fifth column 'LS mean change from baseline (95% CI)', 1 st and 2 nd entries of row 'HbA1c(%)' of Table 3 were published incorrectly. The corrected Table 3 is shown below.

The corresponding in-text citation on page 578-579 has been corrected and the statement should read as follows:

"The decrease from baseline in mean HbA1c levels was significantly higher in the LM50 treatment group (LS mean change -2.03 %; 95 % CI -2.21, -1.84; P< 0.001) than in the LM25 treatment group (LS mean change -1.55%; 95 % CI -1.73, -1.36) at Week 26 (Table 3).
