Comparison of KD‐SR‐01 robotic partial nephrectomy and 3D‐laparoscopic partial nephrectomy from an operative and ergonomic perspective: A prospective randomized controlled study in porcine models

Abstract: Background To investigate the feasibility, validity and security of a new robot platform called KD‐SR‐01 and compare relative merits of KD‐SR‐01 robotic partial nephrectomy (KD‐RPN) and 3D‐Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy (3D‐LPN). Methods Twelve porcine models were randomly and equally divided for KD‐RPN and 3D‐LPN. The perioperative outcomes, physical and mental workload of the surgeon were compared. Physical workload was evaluated with surface electromyography. Mental workload was evaluated with National Ae… Show more

“…Twelve porcine models were randomly divided into KD‐SR‐01 robotic PN and traditional 3D laparoscopic PN, and all procedures were completed by one surgeon. Compared with traditional 3D laparoscopic surgery, there was no significant difference in intraoperative parameters, such as operation time, but the KD‐SR‐01 system has significant physical and mental workload advantages 14 . In addition, our institute has reported the safety and feasibility of robotic pyeloplasty using the KD‐SR‐01 system 15 …”

“…In fact, both robotic transperitoneal dismembered pyeloplasty and robotic partial nephrectomy using the KD-SR-01 system were feasible and safe. 21–24 We believe that transperitoneal PLND could be performed using the KD-SR-01 system safely without pelvic vessel injury, and PLND would be performed further. There were no severe (Clavien–Dindo grade ≥3) perioperative complications or major technical problems, confirming the safety of the KD-SR-01 system.…”

“…The new robotic platform has several advantages. Firstly, the open surgeon console allows the neck of the surgeon to be upright to relieve neck fatigue [8]. This feature might have an ergonomic advantage over the da Vinci robot platform.…”
