Comparison of Live Performance and Meat Quality Parameter of Cross Bred (Korean Native Black Pig and Landrace) Pigs with Different Coat Colors

Abstract: Five hundred and forty crossbred (Korean native black pig×Landrace) F2 were selected at a commercial pig farm and then divided into six different coat color groups: (A: Black, B: White, C: Red, D: White spot in black, E: Black spot in white, F: Black spot in red). Birth weight, 21st d weight, 140th d weight and carcass weight varied among the different coat color groups. D group (white spot in black coat) showed a significantly higher body weight at each weigh (birth weight, 140th d weight and carcass weight) … Show more

“…The basic chemical composition (water, dry matter, total protein and IMF) were quantified according to the methods of Hur et al . (). The water‐holding capacity was measured as drip loss: the sample was placed in a net surrounded by an inflated plastic bag and suspended for 24 h at 4°C after slaughtering according to Franco et al .…”

“…Superior taste leads to an increase in JNP demand with every passing day but less productivity and fertility made it difficult to sustain the demand 6 , 7 . Due to huge demand but less productivity intrusion of different breeds leads to diversion of industry focus on alternative economic viable options 8 , 9 . These imported pig breeds possessed the excellent genetic potential for high production and their growth have been reported to more than 0.5 kg of weight per day but limited with meat quality content 10 , 11 .…”

“…To overcome these issues, JNPs were crossbred with Berkshire pigs, as these are considered a breed suitable for meat production. Thus, practical breeding of JNPs was achieved by crossbreeding with Berkshire pigs (Hur et al, 2013;B.-W. Kim et al, 2011). Crossbred pigs of JNPs and Berkshire pigs exhibited improved meat quality; thus, this meat is highly popular among Korean consumers.…”
