There were 11 studies (12 articles) including 7415 patients; of whom 1991 patients who underwent elective surgery and 5424 who underwent conservative treatment were included in the qualitative synthesis 7,14–24 and eight studies in the quantitative synthesis 7,14,16,18,19,21–23 (Figure 1).
