“…Intermediate temperatures (such as 45 °C Fair and Moore, 1937; Fair et al, 1968) as well as lower temperatures, generally give lower results (Fair et al, 1968; Madigan et al, 2012). Unfortunately, a general optimal temperature in the competition of meso versus thermophilic has not been established and results in literature are not conclusive so far because several works report higher H 2 production in mesophilic regime (Escamilla-Alvarado et al, 2012; Lee et al, 2008; Puhakka et al, 2012; Valdez-Vázquez et al, 2006), whereas other research supports the contrary (Akutsu et al, 2008; Cakir et al, 2010; Escamilla-Alvarado et al, 2013; Kargi et al, 2012; Kim and Kim, 2012; Valdez-Vázquez et al, 2005; Zhang et al, 2003). Therefore, given the lack of general conclusions that could predict the effect of temperature, the latter should be tested experimentally, as it was implemented in our experiment by selecting levels 35 °C and 55 °C.…”

“…),Puhakka et al (2012),Lee et al (2008); Valdez-Vázquez et al (2006) have found that highest hydrogen yields, or concentrations corresponded to the mesophilic regime in previous studies. Yet, a few works have observed high H 2 productions at temperatures around 20-28 °C(Muñoz-Páez et al, 2013;Alvarez-Guzmán et al, 2020).…”
