Comparison of remnant size in embolized intracranial aneurysms measured at follow-up with DSA and MRA

Abstract: IntroductionThe possibility of recanalization and the need for retreatment are the most important limitations of intracranial aneurysm embolization. The purpose of the study was to compare the size of aneurysm remnants measured at follow-up with three-dimensional digital subtracted angiography (3D-DSA) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA).MethodsTwenty-six aneurysms were found incompletely occluded in 72 consecutively examined patients at a follow-up after 3 months. The diameters and volume of aneurysm rem… Show more

“…Seven studies additionally analyzed intraobserver agreement, and raters were blinded to their own previous findings. 8,10,17,[27][28][29]42 Only 8 studies mentioned that the readers were blinded to all patient information other than the images to be read. 10,12,14,[23][24][25]29,31 A single study pointed out that readers had not participated in the treatment of any of the aneurysms included in the study.…”

“…161,[163][164][165][166][167][168]173 Timing of the later follow-ups is variable and depends on the occlusion status of the initial and early follow-up, as well as the condition of the patient. However, with residual aneurysms after coiling, long-term follow-up is indicated because there are late hemorrhages and aneurysm recurrences.…”

“…[163][164][165][166][167][168] A meta-analysis of contrast-enhanced MRA in postcoiled aneurysms showed that contrast-enhanced MRA had an overall sensitivity of 92% and a specificity of 96% in detecting residual aneurysm compared with DSA. 169 However, with treated aneurysms, the resulting susceptibility artifacts on MRA can cause an underestimation of the size of the residual or recurrent aneurysm, and formal DSA may be necessary to determine the need for retreatment.…”

“…Несмотря на то что применение МР-АГ и КТ-АГ ограничивается наличием возможных артефак-тов от металлических имплантатов, таких как клип-сы, стенты и спирали, эти методы остаются доста-точно эффективными для послеоперационного контроля [112][113][114][115][116].…”
