Comparison of STIS and SNAP spectrograph throughputs

Abstract: This is a comparison of the measured throughput of STIS on HST versus what we might expect from the spectrograph on SNAP. The principle reference is Woodgate et al. (1998) PASP, 110, 1183. Additional material was taken from the STIS Handbook, available on-line at www.stsci.edu.The goal is to demonstrate that there are sound reasons to expect better performance for a SNAP spectrograph (even one with a grating) than would be expected by scaling from HST+STIS.In Table 1 I attempt to reverse-engineer the STIS s… Show more

“…(33). Moreover, it is encouraging that our 1σ confidence region has a non null overlap with that estimated by Riess et al, z T = 0.46±0.13, using the model independent parametrization of q(z) = q 0 + (dq/dz) z=0 z.…”

“…Future estimates of d L (z) from the SNAP satellite 1 and d A (z) from number counts from the DEEP2 survey and from baryon oscillations from the KAOS survey 2 will allow estimates of y L (z) and y A (z) at the level of a few percent (Aldering et al 2002;Linder 2003;Seo & Eisenstein 2003). To investigate the power of future experiments, we used the errors given in the dark energy science case of the KAOS Purple Book (Dey & Boyle 2003) for both the KAOS and SNAP experiments.…”
