Comparison of SUN and Wi-Fi P2P WSN in M2M Environments

Abstract: In wireless sensor network, two scenarios are combined which involve either short-range or long-range communications. IEEE 802.15.4g and IEEE 802.11 are considered in machine to machine environments, because they can utilize the identical frequency band. The performances of the physical modes of the IEEE 802.15.4g and the IEEE 802.11 standards are presented and are compared in terms of the bit error rate and throughput when additive white Gaussian noise, shadowing, and multipath fading channels are assumed. Th… Show more

“…However, using wireless sensors with new physical layer patterns such as IEEE 802.15.4g (Smart Grid Standards for Operation in Sub-1 GHz Bands) can reduce the number of anchor nodes used as references for locating other MNs. In this sense, it is reported in Oh et al 44 that the IEEE 802.15.4g physical layer when using bandwidths ranging from megahertz to kilohertz can transmit at distances ranging from tens of meters to up to 20 km. Increased communication distance makes it possible for MNs to locate themselves over long distances with few reference anchor nodes in the network.…”

“…Wireless Smart Ubiquitous Networks -Wi-SUN, são redes de comunicação sem fio baseadas no padrão IEEE 802.15.4g, projetadas para serem confiáveis, possuírem baixo custo e baixo consumo de energia [1]. Normalmente, são empregadas em comunicações que envolvem dispositivos de Internet das Coisas (IoT) ou comunicação máquina a máquina (M2M) [2], para aplicações de monitoramento ou controle.…”
