Comparison of tasselled cap transformations based on the selective bands of Landsat 8 OLI TOA reflectance images

Abstract: Parameters for the tasselled cap transformation (TCT) have been derived for many sensors since 1976. There have been concerns about the comparability of TCT brightness (TCTB), greenness (TCTG), and wetness (TCTW) from different sensors because the number and bandwidth of spectral bands of the different sensors are not exactly the same and the derivation methods vary. In this research, comparisons between the TCT components derived from different combination images with a different number of spectral bands are … Show more

“…On the one hand, TOA reflectance is recommended for the TCT rather than at-surface reflectance by [41,42]. On the other hand, this means that atmospheric effects were not removed from the data, which gives rise to the question of comparability of the TCT components values obtained from the particular scenes.…”

“…Of the Tasseled Cap transformation, the fourth component is identified as haziness that is regarded as the cloud component in Landsat TM/ETM+ data [15,16]. The cloud component for Landsat-8 data is yet to be developed, although the Tasseled Cap transformation using Landsat-8 data has been studied [17,18].…”

“…We then applied these mask to the corresponding Landsat Roy et al, 2016). Using the calibrated brands, we calculated the Tasseled Cap Indices (Kauth and Thomas, 1976) of all scenes using coefficients from the literature (Baig et al, 2014;Huang et al, 2002;Liu et al, 2015;Crist, 1985). Finally, we created a composite from the collection of processed Landsat images over a three-year time period using the median value per pixel.…”
