Background Attempting suicide is considered one of the important indicators of the mental health of individuals in society. One of the important issues in suicide is psychiatric disorders and related factors. Given that no comprehensive study was conducted in Yazd province, this study aimed to assess psychiatric disorders in patients with suicide attempts. Methods This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on 344 patients with suicide attempts at Shahid Beheshti Hospital from March 2021 to March 2022. The type of psychiatric illness was diagnosed based on the clinical interview and DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. All information was extracted from medical records entered into SPSS version 22 and analyzed. P < 0.05 was assumed significant. Results The average age of the patients was 27.09 ± 11.78 years. Among them, 145 were men (42.2%) and 199 were women (57.8%). The most common psychiatric disorder was Major depressive disorder (MDD) (46.5%). Moreover, the lowest frequency of psychiatric disorders was schizophrenia (1.2%). There was a significant relation between psychiatric disorders and variables, including age, number of suicides, gender, and suicide method (P < 0.05). A significant relation was seen between the severity of diseases and gender (P < 0.05). Conclusion Among the various types of psychiatric disorders, MDD was more prevalent in individuals who commit suicide. Hence, it was essential to focus more attention on this particular group of patients. Additionally, the use of medication was the most common method of suicide. It should also be noted that the severity of suicide was higher in men.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is mental illness characterized by instability in mood and social relationships, impulsivity, and impaired identity formation [1]. The symptoms of BPD may be pervasive in their impact on social functioning [2,3]. Further, while past research has indicated that remission of BPD may be observed, remission occurs less often than it does in other personality disorders [4]. BPD symptomatology has also been linked to numerous undesirable behavioral and health outcomes [5][6][7]. One particularly problematic outcome that has been linked to BPD symptoms is violent offending [8,9]. There are numerous components of the BPD symptom constellation that may contribute to this elevated risk. Two of these appear to be particularly relevant because of their power for predicting violent offending: emotion dysregulation and impulsivity.Individuals demonstrating elevated levels of BPD symptomatology may have issues related to impulsivity and emotion dysregulation. However, while both of these constructs are characteristic of BPD, recent research has led to the conclusion that the BPD-violent offending relationship is likely better explained by a diminished capacity for regulating emotions [10]. Delivering brief warrior renew over video teleconferencing to women veterans with military sexual trauma: A pragmatic trial.

This program evaluation examines effectiveness and acceptability of an eight-session brief warrior renew treatment protocol, modified and delivered over video teleconferencing to women veterans who have experienced military sexual trauma. Due to social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), there was a need to adapt and develop a virtual protocol for warrior renew to reach veterans who would otherwise not have access to care. Group exercises were redesigned for video, and class outlines were sent to participants over email. Pre-and postgroup assessments of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) yielded significant decreases with large (.84) and close to large (.77) effect sizes, respectively. Notable were decreases on the Posttraumatic Cognitions Inventory-9 (PTCI-9), indicating significant reduction of self-blame ( p < .001). Participant feedback found that if given a choice, 80% preferred virtual format, while 20% would prefer in-person care, 96% said it was effective and convenient, and 100% felt virtual brief warrior renew should continue to be offered as an option, Dropout of 30% was higher than in-person evaluations of warrior renew; however, 7.5% dropped due to poor internet connectivity. Minus this factor, dropout (22.5%) would not be different than in-person care. Nonetheless, technological difficulties can pose a potential barrier for some. Positive results of this evaluation can inform local operations to improve access to care for those who need or prefer virtual care. Formal research on virtual warrior renew, including a comparison to a control condition, is warranted. Impact StatementOutcomes of warrior renew delivered in a virtual format demonstrated significant decreases in symptoms and positive perceptions of change. Most participants reported preferring the virtual format and might not have engaged in treatment otherwise. This information can inform local operations to continue this treatment in this format. Further evaluation is warranted.
