Comparison of the Efficacy and Safety of a Combination Topical Gel Formulation of Benzoyl Peroxide and Clindamycin with Benzoyl Peroxide, Clindamycin and Vehicle Gel in the Treatments of Acne Vulgaris

“…What is specifically appealing about combination products is the synergistic effects affording increased efficacy without significantly affecting safety or tolerability (8)(9)(10)(11). In this small observational study, the hazards of treatment failure resulting in treatment modifications were consistent between patients initially prescribed a single product, multiple products, or a combination project.…”

“…Further, stably resistant isolates from cultures of P. acnes cultured on plates containing 2, 4, or 8 times the MIC of NB-003 were difficult to maintain. Use of combination therapy to treat acne has been previously studied (10,15,(32)(33)(34)(35)39). Benzoyl peroxide-clindamycin demonstrated improved efficacy and similar tolerability as benzoyl peroxide used alone.…”

“…45 Again, BPO/clin was more effective than either of its active drugs alone as an alternative treatment of moderate or moderately severe acne. The combination formulation was well-tolerated, with dry skin the most frequently reported AE in all groups, and its AE profile was similar to that of BPO monotherapy.…”
