“…These detections can be related to a reduction in testosterone releasing by the Leydig cells and overproduction of ROS. Reported in several studies that ischaemia in the testis tissue for 4 hr led to declining in the sperm quality, such as concentration, the number of spermatozoa with normal morphology and motility (Sertkaya et al., ; Shirazi et al., ). In the present research, markers of oxidative stress, such as MDA, SOD and GPX, were measured due to their effects on biochemical and histological parameters.…”

“…Also, several studies show that the verapamil has antioxidant property. Therefore, it can protect the testis from I/R injury and improve the sperm quality related with I/R injury in testis tissue (Gao, Xuan, Wang, Sun, & Wang, ; Shirazi et al., ). In this study, we use a rat model to investigate the effect of tadalafil and verapamil and also combination of both drugs on testicular ischaemia–reperfusion injury.…”

“…Common existing endogenous antioxidant enzymes include superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and peroxidases[15,16]. Exogenous antioxidants include natural derived components such herb productions[17-25], vitamins[26-31], selenium[32], hormones[33-36], hormones receptors[37,38], vascular agents[39-41], phosphodiesterase inhibitors[42,43], anesthetic and non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs[44-47], mucolytic agents[48], and hyperbaric oxygen[49]. All have been used in an effort to prevent the consequences of the oxidative stress in I/R injury.…”

“…In the revision of literature, it was found that only one study which has attempted to determine whether or not papaverine has a protective effect on I/R injury in the testes; 35 rats were separated into 5 groups (control, sham-operated, verapamil-treated, lidocaine-treated and papave-rine treated). In that study, papaverine did not show any protective effect in respect of sperm count, motility or morphology ( 26 ). In contrast, in the current study, the JTBS of the papaverine group was determined to be significantly higher than that of the T/D group.…”
