Comparison of the Second Grades Native Language Textbooks of Turkey and Iran in Terms of Design

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare the 2nd grade native language (Turkish-Persian) textbooks in terms of design. In this context, the Primary School Turkish 2 Textbook and the Persian Primary School Two Textbook (Farsi-e Dovvome Dabestan), which are officially used in the 2020-2021 academic years, have been examined. The visuals in the books were analyzed descriptively by three experts (two of the experts are the researchers of this study) within the framework of the graphic design principles for the textbooks developed by Alpan (2004). The study was carried out using document analysis method in line with qualitative research principles. But in this process, the designs in the textbooks of both countries were compared and interpreted. The results have shown that the Turkish book was designed more successfully than the Iran book in terms of text design; the Iran book was designed slightly better than the Turkey book in terms of page design, and that the books of both countries had similar characteristics in terms of visual design, cover design and production-oriented external structure.
