Comparison of Ultraflex and Niti‐s Stents for Palliation of Unresectable Malignant Gastroduodenal Obstruction

Abstract: Although no significant difference was seen with regard to feasibility, reintervention was less frequent with UF stents than with NS stents. However, UF stents require much more procedure time, and a complicated and difficult placement procedure. These observations suggest that although NS stents placed using a through-the-scope technique may be more patient friendly than UF stents, further optimization of through-the-scope stents is still required. Further prospective comparison of NS and UF stents in GOO tre… Show more

“…2,27 Moreover, for the treatment of malignant gastric outlet obstruction, the esophageal Ultraflex stents provided less frequent stent occlusion than the uncovered D-Weave stents. 18 Unlike the uncovered D-Weave stents, the Ultraflex stents have a nonreconstrainable over-the-wire delivery system.…”

“…This design feature gives the uncovered D-Weave stent greater flexibility and conformability than conventional TTS stents, and is expected to reduce stent-related negative outcomes such as stent migration and colon perforation. 12,[16][17][18] Despite the advantages of the uncovered D-Weave stents, there are limited long-term clinical outcome data of their use to treat malignant colorectal obstruction. 12,16 Here, we report the results of a prospective, single-arm study of this stent type for definitive palliative treatment of patients with malignant colorectal obstruction.…”

“…However, no through‐the‐scope SEMS was commercially available for malignant GOO in Japan until 2010. An Ultraflex stent (Boston Scientific Japan, Tokyo, Japan) was used as an alternative and placed under fluoroscopic guidance . The Niti‐S pyloric duodenal stent (Taewoong Medical, Seoul, Korea), a through‐the‐scope type stent, was only used in limited institutions as part of a clinical trial .…”

“…This device could allow proper duodenal stenting. Maetani et al 6. compared Niti-S with the conventional over-the-wire type of stent (Ultraflex, Boston) and reported that the mean procedure time ranged from 40 to 15 min ( P <0.0001).…”
